The House That Walked Away is a magical story about belonging and family, for readers young and old. A reminder that not only is home where the heart is, but that we can be a home for the hearts of others.

In this simple, surreal and stunning story, a house sets off on a journey to find a home. Each time it settles down, the comfort is fleeting, and the urge to move on returns.

But everything changes when a curious family notices the house, and decides to follow…

The House That Walked Away is a book that asks a very simple question: what if home is not something to find, but rather something to become?

It’s a personal story for me. My family moved around a lot as a child and for a long time I had a weak sense of place and rootedness. I carried that restlessness into adulthood, and it wasn’t until I became a father that the feeling was satiated. I finally understood that home, for me, was not in a place, but in my capacity for deep relationships. I’m the house in the story. I learned that home was something I could give.

I hope this book inspires readers to reflect on the houses they can be for the hearts of those they love. And be safe and grateful in the houses already built for them.
